How often do I need to pump my septic tank?
We like to use your car's oil changes as an comparison as to how often or why you should perform regular maintenance. We recommend tank pumping maintenance every two to three years, however if you have a small septic tank or a large sized family you may need to clean more often. You should pump your tank more frequently if you use your garbage disposal often, or if you take high doses of medications.
Another reason to consider pumping out your tank would be before a large amount of guests would be coming to stay with you for a holiday or a party.
Are there any warning signs that I should be concern about?
Has it been over 3 years since you pumped your tank? Are there wet spots in the yard around your leachfield? Do you hear gurgle noises when water is running or a toilet flushes or when the washing machine drains? Or perhaps your drains are slugglish to drain out?
